September

I can’t remember a September where I have worn so many different sections of my dress wardrobe, even my holiday pieces received an airing during our brief Indian summer. All of a sudden the mornings feel crisper and autumn is very much in the air so it is time to start switching up your coats to something a little warmer and to consider a pair of boots.

I admit I’ve been a little caught out on footwear this month, secretly longing to pull on my cowboy boots but wavering between trainers and chunky sandals. So I officially declare boot season is open and with that a hunt for a new pair starts. I always invest in 1 pair at the start of the season as I am so reliant on wearing boots with my dresses, they are in constant use. I already have a healthy stable of white styles on the go, so this year I’m looking for a brown pair, something which is currently missing from my boot-robe.

High up on my lust list is the Loeffler Randall ‘Goldy’ style in Safari, well out of my budget but I will be keeping an eye on any sales further into the season. Katherine Ormerod has a pair and swears they are the comfiest boots she owns, enough said. These rich brown cowboy boots by Scandi brand Bronx have the perfect stomping around heel and I love all the detailing on the leather. Arket have an excellent selection of boots, from these chunky black ones to these elegant kitten heel burgundy ones. I have to mention metallic boots as they seem to be on every website and I love the idea of them, giving dresses a modern edge. My favourites are these by Jigsaw which can not only be worn now but will come in very handy during every festive season! Hush’s boot game is so good this season with these lower silver pair and I love their Kendall western ankle boots which will toughen up any pretty dress. I wish I was the right shoe size for the lovely toffee coloured Manolo’s from The Cirkel which reminds me to remind you to always check out preloved for accessories as well as for dresses. And I can’t not include the insane blue boots by Sezane that have been in and out of my shopping basket for the last few weeks. It is so hard to find a good pair of blue boots which you can treat like a neutral, rather like denim, in your wardrobe.

I have featured the Maxi City coat from Jigsaw many times on the DDE, and will continue to simply as it is just the best quality style at the best length for dresses. My burgundy coat is going into it’s 5th season and still looks and feels brand new. I am a big believer in buying a few colours in a style that really works hard in your wardrobe and I am tempted by the new bottle green tone. Not only is it a beautiful colour, 25% of the proceeds will be donated to Smart Works. Win win.

The Gilda trench by Aligne is another coat staple for me, I lived in the black version all of last winter and well into the summer months. It is lightweight, slightly oversized and super long so looks great with boots and dresses. The mustang brown colour is a new addition to my autumn wardrobe and has already been on several successful outings. Another good trench I discovered this season is the tonal striped style by LK Bennett which is clashing beautifully with my printed dresses from leopard to florals.

My last coat which I have my eye on is the Albaray tan and black checked style which would be such a classic to wear year after year. It is a lovely fit and just long enough to wear with a midi dress.
